The singular talent of Scottish singer-songwriter Jacob Alon has turned more than a few heads in recent months. They dropped out of medical school and then theoretical physics, abandoning that good old-fashioned Scottish inclination to pursue a sensible path, drawn by the instinct to make music, the music itself led by acute emotion that cuts through all else. Their nimble, rippling guitar and hymnal vulnerability recall Nick Drake, Jeff Buckley, and Adrianne Lenker: all gossamer voice and delicate pluck, Jacob Alon is adept at “bottling indefinable feelings, then releasing them with the sweetness of a sigh”.
