Cambridge-born, London-based band Ugly are a musical sponge, soaking up everything from The Everly Brothers to 1960s and 1970s staples, from experimental post-rock to Buddhist chants, from Tom Verlaine to Tintin. All of which is to say: don’t try to pigeonhole them. The six-piece have just finished touring with Black Country, New Road, all the while honing their skills at creating an atmosphere of “cultish euphoria”.
