Mermaid Chunky’s origin story is the stuff of indie fairytales. In early 2022, the Stroud-raised Freya Tate and Moina Moin became the first act to sign with James Murphy’s DFA Records, after the LCD Soundsystem frontman randomly heard one of their absurdist, wildly rhythmic tracks in a coffee shop. A few months later, they went on to support Murphy & co. at London's Brixton Academy, bedecked in outlandish homemade costumes. The duo's music-slash-art project roars into life on imminent debut LP ‘Slif Slaf Slof’ – a riot of inspired sonic juxtapositions with songs that are by turns lush, hooky and thunderous.
