The Cinedrome once again ushers in a delectable mix of modern cinema spectacles and revived cult classics for GM16.. We’re very pleased to be showing the UK premier of one of the funniest and most delightful films of the year - Hunt for the Wilderpeople, The New Zealand adventure comedy-drama film, written and directed by Taika Waititi.
On Sunday morning, we're very please to be showing Disney’s new version of classic The Jungle Book, which will keep Little Folks and their parents mesmerised for a few hours..
John Carpenter may be best known for his seminal horrors Halloween and The Thing, but we’re big fans of this lesser-seen ’80s spectacular Starman, starring Jeff Bridges as an extraterrestrial who assumes the human form of Jenny Hayden’s (Karen Allen) late partner. See if you can spot the influence on this year's Midnight Special, which sets out its stall as an atmospheric chase movie before revealing itself to be an superb supernatural thriller in the spirit of a Close Encounters-era Steven Spielberg sci-fi.
Richard Linklater meditates on the male condition in dangerously charming fratboy freakout Everybody Wants Some! Kate Dickie and Paul Higgins star slow-burning woodland drama Couple In A Hole from Belgian filmmaker Tom Geens.
Our day of David Bowie themed activities begins with an anniversary screening of Jim Henson’s ’80s cult hit Labyrinth. On Sunday we remember another tragically fallen idol with a presentation of Purple Rain, the dramatised concert film from 1984, in which Prince plays the Kid, a funk-pop prodigy with a regular slot at a swish Minneapolis music club.
We also welcome a very special BAFTA Cymru screening of Android in La La Land, the brand new Gary Numan documentary which explores life for Gary and his Numanoid family as they set up home in California and as Gary records his 2013 album ‘Splinter’.
